When most of us think about swimming, we think back to the carefree days of our childhood.  The local community pool might have been crowded, noisy, and we did not worry much about sun tan lotion or sunblock.

Swimming today has become a favorite form of exercise for all of us for a variety of reasons.

1. You get a great cardiovascular workout and swimming exercises the majority of your muscle groups.  Most of us find the water relaxing while we are floating away the stress on our joints and bones.  Overall, swimming is an excellent way to stay both physically and mentally fit.

2. Swimming in your own American Fiberglass Pool offers you the added benefit of being available to you 24/7 and to meet anyone’s fitness level.  Swimming is one of the few exercises that you can do if you are older, younger, pregnant or disabled.  Even if you have not previously been a swimmer or even if your overall fitness level is not as high as you would like it to be, you can begin by swimming for 30 minutes a day and gradually increase your swimming time to as much as you like.

3. Swimming is fantastic for people with weight related problems, particularly when it comes to your bones and joints.   While in the water you will feel lighter.  In fact, 150 pounds on land feels like 15 pounds when you are submerged in a pool.  This will make you feel fantastic while you lose that extra weight you are working on losing.  The buoyance of the water allows you to move around freely.  This makes you more limber and feel lighter.  Buoyancy also helps protect you from injury during exercise.

4. Being in a pool also helps you with your posture.  It is much easier to be fully upright in a pool.  Maintaining proper posture will help alleviate and prevent hip, neck, and back problems.  Further, the pool water also acts as a massage by exerting force on your body and massaging your muscles as you move around.

5. Being in an American Fiberglass Pool can help decrease your overall blood pressure.  Bet you did not know that!  If you have blood pressure problems, simply being in shoulder deep water can do just that.  This is due to increased circulation and relief from swelling.

6. Swimming in a pool will help you sleep better.  Why?  Remember when you were a kid and swimming or being in water left you physically tired?  While you may feel exhausted on a general basis, this form of tiredness and relaxation is apt to be conducive to sleeping.  This will allow you to get more rest at night.

Lastly, we can never leave out all the FUN that will take place in a beautiful, affordable, VERY LOW maintenance American Fiberglass Pool.  Family and friends alike will love to visit your home to swim or just sit around the pool and chat.

I hope all or at least some of this makes sense enough that you will want to enjoy your own American Fiberglass Pools this spring.  If you do, best time to get started on that project is RIGHT NOW.  This time of the year is when most people suddenly realize that summer is upon us in a short couple of months.  So take advantage of the incentives we are offering and call your nearest American Fiberglass Pool dealer today!

The two things that keep myself & my wife feeling great in our 80′s are tennis 3 times a week & swimming at least twice every day.The swimming routine is part of our fountajn of youth .Don’t know what we would do with out it.

  2. Alvarado46 says:

It is 5am & I am getting ready to get into my American Pool just like I have for almost 16 yrs. now. My exercise routine in the pool is the way I start every morning rain or shine, cold or hot. When needed I wear my wet suit so being warm in the winter is no problem.

I have previously owned a gunite pool too at my farm near Woodville,TX.
Straight up I can tell you that in my American Pool that my feet do not get chewed up like that gunite pool did. I had that pool replastered & it still was uncomfortable to be in for more than 1/2 an hour.

    • wayne says:

Hi Sal. Since you have owned fiberglass and gunite pools you are an expert on the pros and cons of both. People should take heed of your experiences.

  3. Kimber Belz says:

Glad to read about some one writing about the many virtues of swimming every day!
I teach swimming to folks of all ages and it is true that this type of exercise is the best there is.
I have to add to this that when I used to own and teach in my backyard fiberglass pool that every one loved the silky smooth feel of the pool.
Now I teach in a concrete community pool and those that don’t wear swim socks complain constantly about getting raw feet!

  4. Tarantino 4 says:

We get our whole family out in the pool at the same time to exercise.
My neighbor says it sounds like a Marine Corps boot camp in our backyard during our family exercise sessions.
My wife and I consider this to be a great way to have family time, stay healthy, and to keep the kidos at home as much as we can.
Our pool is a fiberglass pool that is likely 30 years old. Can’t tell you who the builder was but it has been a great pool and our lives would be less complete with out it.

  5. Rizzy says:

Very positive info that you seem to make people aware of.
Keep on sharing these kinds of things with us out here. Rizzy

  6. hacker c says:

There out to be a law that requires all pool bottoms to be smooth like a fiberglass pool.
What’s more they should always stay that way too like a fiberglass pool.
Our fiberglass pool was installed close to 30 years ago in Sugarland,Tx. We have been here almost 23 years. Don’t know for sure but it looks like your model San Jacinto.
We intend to move later this year and want to know if your company builds pools in the Rockport area.
If so, call us so we can budget one of your American Fiberglass Pools for our new beachside house. Our number is 281-***-****.
    Thank you!

I sure enjoy reading the diverse topics you write about. Keeping things interesting and somewhat controversial make for good reads and are more educational than some of the other pool bloggers I have scanned on other sites.
You certainly have a wealth of experience to draw from. Just wanted you to know this and you have a fan here for life!

  8. Sophia says:

Excercise in water is definitely the best type of exercise for all of us. Age does not matter.

  9. Rock says:

Teaching swimming lessons for over 15 yrs now in all types of pools.
The most comfortable poolfor my students to learn in is a fiber glass pool since the poolsurface is so smooth. Rock

  10. Rob Donnier says:

A pool will give you rest, relaxation, stress relief, the bar is always open & excercise all in one tidy, beautiful package. You may not want to ever take another vacation!

After reading your article it makes it hard to understand why every home owner does not have a pool.

  12. Susanna Gertzen says:

Part of livng an organic life style includes swimming at least an hour every day.
That is as important as fresh air, outdoor exercise, clean water, and eating an organic diet.

  13. Carl Huber says:

we are happy to say that our american fiber glass pool has exceeded our wildest expectations over the last 24 yrs
our family has enjoyed so much fun and relaxation in the pool
our lifes would have been so lacking wiyhout it

  14. P. Coolures says:

Some of us are blessed to own our own backyard pool to enjoy & exercise in, we have always had a pool. If you do not own a pool, you should utilize a neighbor’s, a friend’s, or even join a swim club or YMCA. The attributes or hydro workouts is beyond any other type of exercise you can do!!

  15. Truly an absolutely newsworthy site. I was googling swimming pool covers for 4.
